Did I do an alright job of mastering the piece? (SKYPE ME!)
Well since its your birthday and all...guess I'll have a wee listen and review as I listen...here we go.
0:00 - Fun start, quite mysterious. The panning is quite nice too, good use of the sonic space.
00:40 - Very playful though, reminds me of something we'd hear in Disney's Fantasia.
01:13 - Hmm, the theme hasn't changed. The lack of variation is a tad disappointing.
01:31 - Glock is here now. Its a nice new feature but still not much variation going on.
01: 49 - New melody introduced. Its quite sweet but its in the same key. It wouldn't hurt to perhaps modulate and try something new.
02:12 - I guess this is the "cresendo" of this piece. Its nice but again we have seen little to no variation in the main theme.
02:44 - Coming to a slow finish, nice way to wrap up the piece with the glock sounding us out.
All in all its a nice little tune. Some more variation would have made this lovely and even perhaps a build up to a orchestrated cresendo with a full string section could have burst this to life. It would have really driven home the waltz feel to the piece.
All in all though it was very nice, well written despite no modulation or any real variation in theme.
Maybe learn to make the instruments your own a bit more? I have EWQL too and I could pick those patches out easily enough, you need to play with reverb a bit to give them more space.
Great work though, well written for sure.
Happy Birthday :)
I thought about using the ewql samples for the clarinets and flute but garritan had a better sound as to the effect I wanted. i do agree I should/could add strings, that and modulation. But I was quite keen on this piece and afraid to ruin what I had going. Although I think I found my niche which is working with woodwinds for now. Strings are something I will slowly settle in to to try and integrate in to my music. I just for now rather have strong pieces without strings then weak songs with strings. This review was very enlightening thank you. And thanks for the happy birthday!
Absolute garbage. . .
5/5 and Downloaded.
This is cool, its got a nice vibe to it. I've never played Super Metroid so I don't know what the original sounds like but this still has a nice feel to it.
Cool stuff.
you,.. you never played super metroid? :O wow!
glad you enjoyed this tho, its almost like the original just remastered :D
but,... never played super metroid?! xd
More like "Attack on MIDI" heuheuheu...
No but seriously its better that you explore the art of transcribing music yourself instead of relying on MIDI files on the internet.
Putting aside the fact that its just a drop midi into your DAW and slap synths on approach, its not a bad remix.
Not enough bass really but the lead synths don't sound too bad.
Anyway all I'd say is work on creating music yourself from scratch, it'll benefit you more and will help you to make better remixes. Keep at it!
Actually I watched different piano video's for hours transcribing each note. Aside from that picking up every note I slapped shit and turned knobs bla bla. I lived streamed me making everything.
Lol I'll try better at remixing music though I like making my own shit instead of something that was already thought of and out there.
Spam for the sake of spam?
you don't understand the subtext.
The song was pretty poorly composed. The majority of the time is was just a mono synth with a highly repetitive beat behind it. You need to add more variety to the music, its very dull at the moment.
The samples you used, the girls singing and the high pitched "hiiiya" were pretty bad, especially that high pitched one. Poor choice of samples I think or at least poorly implemented.
The lyrics are well written but again poorly executed, the vocals just did not sit well at all. The vocals go out of key quite a bit which makes it a bit painful to listen to. Its very mid frequency heavy with little to no bass. I know you have a low voice underneath but it just sounds very very dull.
I think overall you need to expand on the composition, add more instruments and liven it up. Work on tuning the vocals more and making them more exciting. My biggest issue is that synth, is so weak and takes away from the song quite a bit.
Keep at it anyway, practice makes perfect.
2.5/5
I really appreciate the review buddy! I'm glad you mentioned the samples and what not because I am kinda new at this and had no idea how they sounded to others since i'm so conditioned to the song by this point. Thanks again for the awesome review.
I really didn't enjoy the chords, they were very common and also there is a number of nasty clashes especially from 52s onwards.
Putting that aside though...
The progression of this piece is very unique, very experimental which I enjoyed.
The timing is literally all over the place, everything seems to be out of time but in a weird way I really enjoyed that element of it.
You have a nice ear for melodies but I think you need to practice more on making coherent melodies that are in time.
Gonna keep a eye on your next few pieces, I want to see how you improve from this.
3.5/5
Thanks for feedback!
Very sweet piano, I'm impressed that you used a phone to record this.
The piano progressions get a bit repetitive but I still enjoyed them regardless.
The violin that comes in at 00:26 is very nice, it has a very sombre tone to it, great emotion behind it.
I think the title "Forgotten Love" is very appropriate, when I listen to this I get the mental image of a woman standing on almost like a etherial cloud looking out in the distance longing for her love who has since gone.
Its a very sweet piece over all.
4.5/5.
Good Job.
Thanks for that helpful review!! :D
